Free and total testosterone results
Just got some blood work done and results for free and total testosterone are in. After checking some ranges, I'm a bit worried that my levels are low, despite being classified within "normal range".
Free testosterone: 9,94 ng/dL
Total testosterone: 401 ng/dL
I'm a 37 year old male and have been training for the past 10 years naturally (no AAS).
Are these results good or are they on the low side?
Thanks for the help!

Well, I'm not a doc but the total test is pretty low. The bottom of the reference range for total test is somewhere around 368 or something like that. I don't know about free test. Post up the reference ranges that are on your lab results and it'll help us bro-scientists help you out lol.

Thanks for the replies folks.
Here are the reference numbers from the lab:
Free testosterone: 4.58 to 18.33 ng/dL - Mine was 9.94 ng/dL
Total testosterone: 175 to 781 ng/dL - Mine was 401 ng/dL
I currently live in Brazil and my blood work was done in a Brazilian lab with their references. Since these references vary from lab to lab, I thought I'd get the real scoop from you guys.
Please let me know if I should start looking into HRT or TRT or something else that might help.
Cheers!!

No, i would suggest staying away from hrt. Your levels are not that bad at all. Sure they could be higher but I don't think any md would see those numbers and deem you hypogonadal. You are more or less around the middle range- normal not optimal- but normal nonetheless. Also, another thing to consider is that levels flucuate- I've personally seen my levels in the past go from mid 4 to mid 6's with no real change in what I was doing. I think you could probably get your numbers to rise a bit with some simple tweaks to your diet and supplement regimen. People are way too quick to jump on the hrt bandwagon- not that hrt is bad per se- I just think people should leave that for when they really need it.

I don't think it is mandated. Each lab uses a different reference range- labcorp, quest, and all the major labs tend to use different values. Also they use different ranges based on age. At least this has been my experience( I've had bloodwork down probably 25-30 times in the last ten years).

His total Test is fine, depending on his age a Dr may not prescribe IMO

GarlicChicken, it's been a good length of time since I was tested and I only lifted the range in my post from teh Interwebz. Thanks for the heads up.
daft205, your comment echoes almost exactly what WebMD indicates.
Thanks for the input.
"These ranges vary from lab to lab, and your lab may have a different range for what’s normal. Your lab report should contain the range your lab uses. Also, your doctor will evaluate your results based on your health and other factors. This means that a value that falls outside the normal values listed here may still be normal for you or your lab."Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Join Rx Muscle on Facebook!

HammerStrength12 offered nearly that same advice when I was concerned over a drop from about 580 to three something. That levels may vary seemingly without a reason as well as depending on what time of day the test is administered.
I picked up a book, too, forget the name, about raising your testosterone naturally.
Leaning on Google again... it might be this one. I buy too many books.
