    Default Oh Nolvadex. . .

So just curious if there is any evidence that Nolvadex would work as a birth control of sorts? Honestly I didn't do any research I was just curious if anyone knows off hand? I ran a cycle before and didn't have a period for like 3 months. I'm just wondering if you're not having a period, does that basically mean you're infertile?

I was around 160, I was taking Clen and T3 at the time, but Clen and T3 have never messed with my period. I only ran the nolva for 2.5 weeks and then stopped bc I got kinda freaked out about it. Then I didn't have my period for like 3 months.

I'm going to run it (a full cycle) probably in the next month or so, and was just curious IF taking it would be a bonus (aka harden up and act as a pseudo birth control) I guess not. And you can't take birth control while on Nolva either....so that mirena IUD is looking better and better everyday I guess............

I guess on a totally diff note, I wonder if you're fertile during the months you don't have a period. . .

I think it is safe to say no, you arent fertile. and in my opinion an IUD should be the BC of choice for any woman taking medications not intended for their use... like AAS, AI's, Estrogen regulators, CNS stimulants....

Yeh, I've been thinking about it on and off for a while now, but I'm just really nervous about the pain. I heard you need like 3 days off after and the pain of them inserting it is unreal, and then you bleed for like 3 months while your body figures out whats going on. But I guess thats better than a baby. . .

I have heard just the opposite... plus there are other IUD's besides meridia... it just has the added benefit of stopping your period for extended periods of time.

Hmmm, I've not done enough research on it bc I'd only heard those negative things so I kind of dropped the idea. I'll look more seriously into it soon I guess...

OK let's step back and look at what you're using:

Clen & t3 -- broncodilator & thyroid medication - has nothing to do w/ your menstrual cycle. There's no reason either would affect it - if your period stopped it would be more likely due to a dramatic drop in bodyfat or stress, possibly from lifting / training - but never as a result of running either of those.

Nolvadex - ANYTHING that screws w/ your sex hormones has the potential to interrupt your period. (aka amenorrhea). Usually the body responds by stopping flow at least, but generally people will still experience the various sides that come w/ that time of the month. Does it make you not need to worry about getting pregnant .. NO!!!!! There's a gradiation of partially stopped to fully stopped menstrual cycle. In the extreme (very long term use), Nolvadex could lead to early menopause - this is NOT something you want just to get the one "side" of avoiding getting pregnant - you also experience everything that comes w/ menopause - hot flashes, dry skin, dry hair, etc. (See this article for details: http://www.livestrong.com/article/37...use-tamoxifen/)

The problem w/ trying to run BC & nolva at the same time is that they have opposing effects. I asked my OB/GYN about this once. He said why not just stop BC? (Of course this then implies you have to find a different method of birth control to be sure.)

Thus we come to the IUD discussion. Most doctors will NOT let you use one if you're within your child-bearing years. You would need to find a doc who would work w/ you on that - esp at your age chica!

RE: "pain" of an IUD - no biggy. It is very rare that people experience real misery w/ these things. A copper IUD is completely non-hormonal but may induce bleeding. This is why other options like the Mirena are available w/ a very low dose / slow release dose of progesterone to help reduce or eliminate bleeding. Personally I've had one for 4 yrs w/ literally no issue.

A side note re: nolva or AAS - anything that screws w/ your hormone profile can promote yeast infections. If you're using either, include acidophilus in your supplement stack to help avoid these.

Thanks Jill/Sass, I know we've discussed this all before, but its been a while and I guess I just had a curious question. HA! And of course I totally forgot about running it with Acidophilus so thats also on my list!

Yeh I guess I more or less was thinking if my period stopped does that mean it acts as birth control in a round about way, but I'm positive now that the answer is definitely not.

I'm going to be running a fairly low dose anyways, so hopefully those people with INCREASED fertility are taking a LARGE amount?

Either way, I think I really just need to buckle down and figure out this IUD situation. I'm just really nervous and yes, about being young. I want kids .........someday. But I dunno, maybe like 10 years from now!

So I was going to message you these questions, but miswell ask here if anyone else wants to know:

    1) Whats the cost of the IUD op?
    2) On a scale of 1-10 how bad did it hurt going in?
    3) How long until your period was normal again?
    4) Do you still have periods with the copper IUD?
    5) Can you use tampons with the IUD?
    6) Has it ever fallen out?
    7) Do dudes 'feel it' LOL

I don't mean to hi-jack this thread, but F-it, Its my party and I'll cry if I want to!

    PS---You coming Saturday?

RE: dose - like I said - its not really a matter of dose as much as the gradiation - recommend you stay on your B/C just to cover the bases. The two don't literally interact as much as they are just promoting opposing results, so some limitation to the end result.

RE: IUD - start by talking to your OB/GYN to see if they'd even allow you to do it. THey HIGHLY recommend against it for child-bearing years women. NOt that it really matters that your'e child-bearing years -aged - but I think its more about the investment in it and the 5 yr lifespan of it.

    To your questions:
    1) Whats the cost of the IUD op?
Usually around $600. Check if its covered by your ins.

    2) On a scale of 1-10 how bad did it hurt going in?
For me, negligible. Ocassionally it might not be seated correctly going in and you'd know immediately. You go back, they readjust and just like nothing happened.

    3) How long until your period was normal again?
Gonna depend but maybe a month or two - generally I've always heard can take up to 3 months (3 complete cycles) for your body to adjust to it - for me - no issue.

    4) Do you still have periods with the copper IUD?
Yep. But I think diminishing over time, excluding any bleeding you might experience specifically from it.

    5) Can you use tampons with the IUD?
    Don't see why not.

    6) Has it ever fallen out?
Nope. But when you go in for your annual they will check it.

    7) Do dudes 'feel it' LOL
    Doubt it. Its pretty small.

Don't worry - these are all the same questions that would come up for someone in your current position. Estrogen always presents a dilemma..
