Default Alan Bailey and "Natural" bodybuilding

Alan Bailey won the T.U. a "natural" show but has also failed screening in other organizations (2005 naturalbodybuilding.com/failedathletes)... what do you think about this and other "natural" bodybuilders competing and claiming even after they fail a test to be natural

I reckon it sucks and it's great at the same time.. tests are catching people and some orgs have balls in shaming these people.

They should be ridiculed until they stop bodybuilding all together, that's very low.

There is a difference between NATURAL and TESTED contests. Honestly, happens all the time at tested shows. Some guys end up coming back 2 years later and winning the overalls after failing the drug test 2 years previously. Not even a big deal in tested shows. Hate to say it how it is, but tested just means clean the day of the show.

The problem I have is that say a guy fails a test and comes back two years later looking phenomenal. Does anyone believe that they can come in at their all time best clean, especially after already failing? IMO it would be very hard to compete at top level shows naturally when you've previously competed using.

I think once you use steroids or any prohormones or any supplements that contain steroids you are not "natural" and I will never consider them a "natural bodybuilder."

Team Universe is not a Natural show. The requirements for TU are to be drug free for one year. Most Natural Orgs are 7 years or lifetime drug free. The reason the TU exists is so the athletes can compete in the World Championships which is drug tested.

From a moral ground/context, while it may be true that the use of anabolic drugs is probably the "wrong" thing to do, on the other hand we must respect those who make the decision to use them. After all, Bodybuilding does not pretend to be something it is not, and is not neccessarily trying to go mainstream. It is a subculture practiced by those of us who have a passion to go as far as we can with it. So who really gets hurt? Nobody, unless you want to argue that perhaps the athlete may be jeoprodizing they're health.

As practicing competitive Bodybuilders, we can all identify with that. Most of us have probably at one time or the other taken anabolics ourselves, I know I have.

What IS ammoral however are those who portray themselves as natural and are not, and WORSE, even compete in natural shows! I find this behavior despicable and unconciousable. Any individual who would do this is, in my opinion, nothing more than a common thief.

I think you are missing the point - it is a matter of representation - so this is clearly why NPC can play in the TESTED vs Non-TESTED set of shows. But the real die hard NATURALS will go into federations such as NGA, and INBF specifically to take a much longer range view ---- most are looking at 7 years drug free or life time drug free. So here is the real message, this guy did not do anything wrong - and I am sure he past the test. BUT - if you have taken "anabolics" as you put it - and you mean illegal drugs - the don't misrepresent yourself as playing within the rule of these Natural Federations. STAY AWAY, and let the playing field be more even and fair. The winners should not be dropped down because someone lied and misrepresented how they got in condition for the natural shows. Pitallpaul got it right. Overall, Natural Bodybuilding is clearly defined by the federation you are with. If you can get into a tested show from an organization that only counts passing the test, and you are not telling lies - then that is the only rule you need to pass to FAIRLY COMPETE. And that is what this is about - if you dont like the rules just dont compete in those shows. That is why the ban on people is for specific time periods as well. To me that sounds fair - all they are trying to do is separate out people that take drugs from those that dont - so they can fairly compete. Most of us can tell the difference between the ones "on something" and the ones that are not. So what is the big deal. Some people like dirt bikes others like track racing - I wont force someone to be involved with an F1 race, if they wanted to run funny cars. Maybe there should be an olympics for all sports - where there is no drug testing - a separate set of records, and a separate set of show downs. I bet you would see some fast times - LOL. Lets just not confuse the effort to play fair with the reasons why you choose one vs the other - no one cares why you do it. We all love the sport overall - we just have different images of what to achieve. I think a Brian Whitacre physique is 100 time nicer than a Jay Cuttler - but many people would not agree. SO WHAT - lets just not have them attempt to compete with each other. I have seen it happen at natural federation shows, and it is rare and it is NOT WELL RECEIVED by the audience, promoters or judges. It can get pretty obvious. IMO

sometimes we need to look at the promoters and why they set this up - a tested show will likely attract more people than not?? I dont know - I just know you get a wider range of competitors.
