Dhea ?
Hey,
In need of a little info please anyone. I've been trying to read up on DHEA but seem to be finding so much conflicting stuff on it!
Basically, I just want to know if this is something good to be taking? Some say it can cause a boost in estrogen and / or its bad to take it unless in your 40s??!!!
Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks!
If it's any help, I'm 24 years old and the rules of the Natural organisation I compete in say you are permitted to take up to 50mg of DHEA daily.

DHEA is a pro-hormone but it's at the beginning of the estroidal chain (asides straight cholesterol) so it can turn into whatever hormones you body uses it for, vs normal "pro"hormones also have to convert in your body to be effective but they are further down this chain and their conversion potential is limited making them more effective (I still think they are garbage)
Another problem with DHEA is it's still an oral, so of the 5% your body is up-taking, 3/4 of
it ended is probably being converted into something other than testosterone, and even the stuff that does convert will likely end up as estrogen eventually. I have seen people have results using DHEA and an Aromatase Inhibitor because it guides what the DHEA in what it is converted to but these are all banned by natty orgs, because of their association with steroid use. If you are looking for an anabolic edge just go NPC.

Thanks a lot for the advice. Sounds horrible, I definitely won't waste my time with it then.

Skinny,
I think I posted this in another thread...but DHEA is available in a rub on cream. It is at the local health store, I saw it myself. Guy showed it to me after the lady showed me the Pregnenolone cream for my wife. Didn't buy either, just letting you know it is out there and readily available.

Hey Ninja, how do you find the DHEA in that chart? Is there a SEARCH button attached to it? LOL
Seriously, don't be offended. VERY cool chart !!!

By the way, it is a real pain in the neck and rather unenforcable (sp?) for an organization to list a legal and DSHEA approved item to their list. Honestly, the average competitor would not be able to look at the prop blend on most products and even know if DHEA is in there, let alone the mgs... Most sudies show supplemental DHEA doesn't do shit anyway.
Getting into a differrent topic slightly, it seems to me it should just be a matter of legal OTC or not. Just mt 2 centsLast edited by chrismac365; 10-28-2011 at 08:04 PM.

I used it for a little over a month just to see. All it seemed to do was bloat me pretty badly.

actaully dhea is not a pro hormone, it is an actual hormone. It doesn't convert as a pro hormone would. It does however affect the production of other hormones such as testosterone, progesterone, and estrogen.
The majority of studies done are on older males ages 50-70+. Most use it as a HRT type supplement to bring their levels back up. As you age, your natural dhea levels decline so supplementation can help bring it back up as well as other lagging hormones that also decline due to age. Alot of doctors will try this protocol for men before prescribing testosterone replacement therapy to see if the dhea brings up their natural levels. If that doesn't work, then they'll go ahead with the test therapy.
For a natty, dhea probably won't give you the edge you're looking for and can actually cause an undesireable imbalance in your other hormones such as increased estrogen.

Incorrect. It does convert. It's conversion to T in men is poor and it increases E2 along with the minimal changes in T, and is thus of no value to younger men as an anabolic agent. In women, it may be of value due to it's effects on T in them. I cover that topic here:

From a health stand point, men or women, usually over 40 (when DHEA levels start to decline sharply), DHESA replacement may have health benefits, but it's no replacement for TRT in men.Last edited by Will Brink; 12-21-2011 at 01:48 PM.
