ab distention...Insulin?
Alrght so i am at a total loss as to what is causing this issue that i am having. For about the past year or so I have been struggling with my stomach being distended....its not fat...but it just sticks out. I have a small frame so any little imperfection sticks out. It is much much better right now but some days are worse than others. I have stopped training my abs in fear of having that add to my problem, but i still want definition. Like i said my abs are rock hard but they stick out. It was really bad about 6 months ago, and i was eating significantly more veggies. I went to see a naturalpath and he is 100% positive i am insulin resistant and that i should basically be doing a keto diet...which i am not a huge fan of, and neith is my coach. I am currently eating 180g protein 225g carbs and 45g fat. Before i switched coaches i was doing cream of rice, red potatoes, white rice, and rice cakes. Now I do oatmalfor all my carb meals except i do rice cakes post workout. My friend had reccomended i try different carbs to see if they effect my body in different ways. The oatmeal has seemed to sit well with my stomac, but like i said some days are worse than others. I wear a belt when i do heavy lifts like squat, bb rows, and o.h shoulder press, in an attempt to minimize core activation. I feel like I am doing all I can and no one can figure out what is going on...If anyone has any suggestion I would really apprectiate it.

I had the same problem and found out I was super carb sensitive and that lead to me finding out my blood sugar was wacko.
I try to do gluten free carbs when I can....to at least try to help the problem.
I thought I was just super constipated all the time! LOL!!!

I have worked with now 3 different coaches, my first coach origionally thought it was howi was breathing while i was doing my exercises. I was eting Oatmeal, yams, rice cakes, quinoa, brown rice, ezekial bread, and was also eating a TON of veggies, about 1.5lbs per day!!! Than I switch coaches about 10 weeks before my show and he immediatly put me on low carbs since i was pre cocntest and i was mainy doing yams and oatmeal. Than post contest he changed all my carbs to "white" carbs in an attempt to maximize muscle growth after being on a contest diet. So I was doing white rice, red potatoes, chream of rice, oatmeal, and rice cakes. I have just recently switche coaches again and hes not super particular about where i get my carb sources from just as long as i am at my reguired amount. So thats when i decided to try my experiment with different carbs. I am also eating way less veggies. I currently have layed off of training my abs just becuase I am afraid this will add to the problem.

Distention can be from veggies this is the reason they are removed last few days before a show
Off season stomach is naturally going to stick out more due to considerably higher volume of food
Get your hormones checked there is no reason to not be having a period. Even though I lose my during prep within 2 months after show i am right back on schedule and I am 47
if distended during prep and you "regular"?
How much is distended? My lower is distended a some even when shredded I am beginning to wonder if some peoples uterus pushes forward
Distention can be hormonal I know that the week before my period i get very distended it isn't water retention my midsection is hard but sticks out it is internal

I am very regular, so I dont think that is the issus. It could definetly be a hormone issue seeing how i have not had my period in 3 years. I have the same thing with it being hard but sticking out....in the past it has been mostly my lower abs but lately i am noticing my upper abs sticking out.

I have this too, Mine was helped at first by removing gluten and dairy from my diet... but i still had a little pot belly, just no water retention anymore, it made me cover up with t-shirts for gym instead of cute tops. After a lot of research mine seems to be very tight hips, so my lower abs have to compensate, I have started adding in specific stretches each day (only started a week ago) and some mobility work, so maybe yours is tight hips too, I think if you google "lower cross syndrome" you will see what I mean. good luck with finding an answer that works for you.
