Default N.P.C. Bodybuilders ( ultimate warrior) can't swing Iron Sheiks clubs

Not sure how to embed this video, but this was taken from 1983 NPC Georgia Bodybuilding Championships. The Ultimate Warrior ( Jim Helwig) was competing and gave it a go. He is the second guy up and would go on to win and go to Nationals.

Pretty cool, and way hard looking.

Glad you liked it. I use these clubs in my training and they are incredibly challenging. Lots of my powerlifting , bodybuilding, mma and wrestling friends have lots of trouble with them . It's fun to watch though, lol.

although it maybe a good exercise for wrestlers etc i cant see the benefit it would have for a bodybuilder. wouldnt be supprised if the bodybuilder injured himself duing this. i bet sheik cant squat or deadlift or bench what this guy can

Of course .. with the exception of light club swinging to improve joint mobility there is no benefit to a bodybuilder. These clubs were specifically designed to handle through these ranges of motion for wrestling . the non stop movement with them mimics the type of challenge, both isometrically and dynamically , that one would incur in wrestling . The grip attained is incredible because the handle moves in all different directions within the hand, which develops all areas of ones grip.

Sheik was a animal ( olympic assistant wrestling coach, pan am gold medal winner, iraq wrestling champion ( they are one of the best wrestling countries) , coach at minnisota U wrestling . Although he may not have been able to squat or dead what they can , I most definitely can and I use the clubs as well : )

On second thought , Big Green.. Sheik was born , raised and trained in Iran. He was one of the top wrestlers in his country and the world. Since Iran is and has always been a pretty strong olympic weight lifting country I will change my initial post and say that with a few months specific training Sheik may in fact be able to blow those three Bodybuilders out of the water with the squat and deadlift . We just dont know, but I wouldn't bet against him and his back round. I would be surprised if he didn't do his fair share of top caliber weight lifting as a top wrestler for Iran.

yeah i understand how beneficial it can be for a wrestler...
as a bodybuilder i wouldnt have even got up to try it because the last thing he wants is to fuck up his rotator cuff or something, not to mention using a heavy weight with no warm up!
personally if i compare it to a soccer player trying to out put a golfer on the green - it just wouldnt happen. but if you got the golfer on the soccer pitch he wouldnt be able to play as well as a footbeller. that is my argument.
Also i dont doubt that he is a strong guy and an expert on his field, i wasnt suggesting that at all

for some reason i am reminded of when i go on holiday to turkey or egypt. they see a big guy and immediately ask for an arm wrestle lol i couldnt pass a shop or a bar without getting harrased for an arm wrestle for a wager but i wouldnt because i didnt want to fuck up my shoulder. My friend on the other hand did who is also a bodybuilder. he won. he also fucked up his rotator cuff. he was against a skinny guy that was a very good arm wrestler

personally i dont see arm wrestling as a test of strength. i would have been more than happy to deadlift against them though.

I completely understand what your saying . It's specific and I , in no way , would suggest bodybuilders go out and do it . That's why I put it in the Pro Wrestling section .

About the Arm Wrestling... that's so funny . It is the same way in America.. just walk into a bar and I'm sure you'd be asked the same thing by some drunk . I've gotten my share of it as I'm sure most big guys have . The Meels (clubs) are different than Arm Wrestling though, in that they are very difficult to even lift and control let alone swing with a coordinated effort .

Regardless, Bodybuilders should just stick with bodybuilding..whats the sense otherwise ? Take care , B. G.

I just wanted to add some pics to this thread. Aside from the heavy club swinging , hindu squats/ pushups I think it's pretty obvious the guy could lift some heavy stuff . A friend of mine is friendly w Sheik and I asked him if he can find out for me . Regardless, he could suplex 300 pound men pretty easily.. haha.. That's good enough for me. Hope you like the pix.

I agree, Cena's a strong guy..especially considering the schedule he keeps . The first exercise I do here are with 35 pound long Mil's (clubs) these are heavier than sheiks clubs and are extremely difficult to lift .. I was very surprised when I first picked up my first pair of long clubs and they were only 14 pounds each .. I was used to lifting heavy barbells and dumbbells but these things humbled me real fast ..

Thanks, Big Green .. of course not great for Bodybuilding but for strength and development for sports it's good stuff . The Kettlebell exercise was made popular by a russian Olympic Greco wrestler and USA olympic coach, ivan ivanov .

Nice lat spread profile . Do you compete ?
