thanks for asking...healing good and ahead of schedule according to my doctor this week.
current worst part is the muscles on either side of the vertebrae get real tight. scheduled a massage, wish i could afford to do them more often though.
otherwise, i don't have many complaints. its a better recovery process than i expected.Proud member of The Church of What's Happening Now, with Joey Coco Diaz (podcast on iTunes)

thank u!
my effects from the herniated disc included: numbness and tingling down both arms (left and right side of C6-7 were herniated), muscle atrophy both arms, right chest and shoulder, neck pain at injury site which would end up with very tight muscles causing headaches.
i was hoping i'd be able to get by with the discectomy surgery (doc goes in thru back of neck and clips off the herniated part of the disc that is visible), but doc said i wouldn't benefit from that, due to the discs condition. Thats the surgery peyton manning originally had, before he had to have the ACDF surgery.
honestly, my biggest fear was not being able to train for an extended period of time. i have friends who have recovered from the surgery, so i wasn't afraid that i wouldn't recover. plus my doctor put me in touch with a bodybuilder who had the surgery 7 years ago. i contacted him, and he had no complications from the surgery. hes totally healed and never had any problems with the discs above and below his fusion level.
as far as the training goes, by using an exercise band and 5 and 10 lb plates, i was able to keep my muscles active (at 3 weeks) and kept from losing size.
i have to believe the time off probably helped my body recover from all the lifting as well. i've never taken an extended break from lifting in 16 years, so my body actually feels pretty refreshed now.
feel free to pm me with any questions and i hope everything goes well for u.Proud member of The Church of What's Happening Now, with Joey Coco Diaz (podcast on iTunes)
