Video from leg training today
Legs have been my main focus since the 2010 USA's. Had a pretty intense training session today. Workout looked like this:
Lying leg curls superset with Leg extensions 3x20
Squats
135x12
225x12
315x8
365x8
405x8
then this drop set
http://youtu.be/PCxICPuCUBo
Leg Press superset with 50yard lunges 4 sets
Seated leg curls 5 sets with a triple drop at the end
After that drop set on squats we were pretty toast!

Drop sets are brutal...personally I would go deeper on your squats but if your legs are responding then keep doing what you're doing

I usually do squat deeper but I felt a pull in my IT band on my set with 365. As long as I didn't go real deep I could deal with it. Trust me all the bros at MD have already told me about my terrible form LOL. It's all good, no excuses here some reps were shallow I know that

So when you say 405x8 did that mean you did 16 of those half rep squats?

I was going to call you out on your bad form but since you admitted it.....lol
If you felt a pull and you're risking injury, I think you should pack it in for the day. I know it sounds really weird but
it's better than risking an injury.
Maybe you oughta get that checked out.

Guess I'm not seeing what everyone else is... Are all my reps ass to grass? No but by no means do I think my form is "terrible". I have another vid on my YouTube channel of my squatting 405 all the way to parallel but I didn't have a huge pump in my legs before I did those plus I'm wearing shorts and a tee shirt do you can really judge my depth

Nice work BB! Being fixated only on one range of motion is so "book" style training that is doesn't always work for everyone. I for one love doing A to the G squats, but also believe in other ranges of motions when doing squats, keeping the tension in the right places, etc. If I had a dime everytime I saw some kid at the gym going A to the G squats, week after week, but 2 years later thier legs still look the same because thier load has never increased, I would be a rich fella - the kicker is when that same kid says to me I need to go A to the G everytime, aaawwwwww...okay, I will stick with what is working for me and when it stops I will fix it. Again, I am all for A to the G squats or full range of motion, blah, blah...but, there is more than one way to skin a cat. Stimulate to grow!

Yea that's what I'm saying... I squat the best way I feel my legs work. When I squat on the smith or hack I go until my hams touch my calves but that's because it feels right. I think more people need to actually film themselves squat too so they can truly see how low they go. A side view is completely different from what you see in the mirror.

Just keep an eye on your leg development. If you have get legs from doing less than half ssquats, more power to ya. The reason most people don't squat as low as they should is because of ego. Whole lot harder to squat to the point where your ass hits your ankles which means squating a fair bit less weight initially and most people can't handle doing that. People will rib ya anyway bud, at least it looks like you train with some serious intensity which is very important!

That was supposed to say if you have "great" legs.

I wouldn't say your form was terrible at all. Your depth wasn't even close to parallel and I think the limited ROM you had definitely made the sets you did manageable. And yeah, I think I can judge your depth here LOL - It's no big thing - we all have our days where we can't get down on the squat bro.
And FYI - Derik Farnsworth and Pete Ciccone do their squats at the end of the workout and do 20 rep sets at 315 and 405... they also get all the way down. I have NO IDEA how they do it LOL

I am by no means saying the depth in these videos are great... I can see that I'm a little short, like I said I do normally squat lower but with the tweak in my quad coupled with trying to not use a belt and having a stupid pump these squats were less than perfect. The set was meant to show intensity of the workout not my picture perfect form. Guess I'll have to post new videos once I'm used to squatting beltless and my quads are looser
And I wouldn't say I'm on Derek's level yet with it comes to squats... Dude is a monsterLast edited by BabyBeast05; 02-13-2012 at 11:10 AM.
