Hctz
So i've been researching using HCTZ. I have a few questions.1. I have found that it is NOT addictive and therefore you do not have to taper off it when you decide to quit taking it, unlike other bp meds. Correct?2. Do herbal diuretics work very effectively, or would hctz be a better option?3. Does hctz cause a drastic improvement in bp? or is it just a mild bump because of water retention? Considering that AAS induced bp changes are not exclusively attributed to water retention, would hctz still help bp?4. I would assume that water intake would have to be higher while taking hctz?5. What negative sides have you experienced with this drug? Thanks for your advice

Your body will counteract it by raising aldosterone levels and you will have to continue to raise your dose. Aldactone would be the better choice for bp if it were due to water retention. High bp can also be a sign of more complicated problems such kidneys etc.
Be safe and see a doctor.

1) No need to taper off, it just gets rid of edema.
2) Herbals suck. I would do HCTZ any day over OTC.
3) HCTZ dropped my BP by about 15 points.
4) Water intake remains about the same. It just gets rid of the extra.
5) The only real negatives I've seen is cramping. Take potassium tabs daily.

all good advice. HCTZ is not potassium sparring so for say contest prep, it would not be ideal. it will pull water from muscle as well as subcutaneous and give a flat appearance for most people. dyazide is a better option for last minute water shedding. aldactone is wonderful for hard working athletes to sue long term and prep. but know that its function is slower acting than HCTZ, lasix or dyazide and takes several days of use to acheive the desired affect.
for day to day control of BP, most people respond better to HCTZ AND use a OTC potassium supplement. if you sweat a ton in the gym, manual labor outdoors, etc, potassium supplementation is essential. if your BP is moderately elevated, HCTZ is a good option for controlling that. but, if you blood repssure is higher or doesnt repsond well with HCTZ, then something like a beta blocker would be used.
for better effect, take HCTZ before bed as your heart works less hard while you are sleeping allowing the drug to work much more effectively. some users however have issues with ejaculation (prolongs or inhibits) so understand when it is best for you to take it.Last edited by Bryan Hildebrand; 03-11-2012 at 02:00 PM.
