So is it a high or low glycemic carb? As in should one use it if they are dieting?

You can get 6 lbs of Optimum WMS with an enzyme call Carbogen for 18 bucks from DPS Nutrition, thats pretty cheap. I personally notice a big difference in how lean I stay and how much water I hold compared to dextrose, and my energy levels are very consistent. I can take 120 g of this stuff after workouts and eat a big solid food meal an hour and a half later since it doesn't bloat. But I like this stuff for meal replacement shakes just as much as PWO. For offseason use its great, but pre contest only PWO.

I like waxy maize because it's the only carb powder that I can drink.....Dextrose is so gross (the sweetness makes me so nauseous, and malto makes me bloated.......Vitargo makes me crash and then I'm starving).
I purposely use it to avoid a huge insulin spike, I look and feel better on slower carbs. I use it post workout, and my stomach stays flat and I feel good for a 90min until my next solid meal.
Plus I enjoy the taste and texture. I use unflavored, and just add it to my whey.
The marketing hype aside, it's a good powder. All this sugar/insulin post workout stuff is way way over rated. For every "freak" it has produced, it has also caused an entire generation of bodybuilders to just get fat.Last edited by Rep300; 02-18-2012 at 06:05 AM.

its good stuff, a sweet potato would be way better though.
or if you add it wo protein shakes you would have more benefits from adding oats instead even though it is harder to drink.
i use it on occasions if im struggling to get enough carbs in but i prefer finely ground oats mainly because waxy maize has alot of gluten

edit: @Spacey
No, sorry if i wasn't clear - i prefer Dextrose as my post-workout carb source (I use NOW Foods Dextrose) .. the Corn Starch I was using for a while after trying a few different Waxy Maize products and the results were pretty much the same. Waxy Maize was hyped to be a very high Glycemic carb, but what studies and my experience has shown me is that most Waxy Maize on the market is likely regular corn starch - not standardized for the high glycemic carbs and is instead a mix of high and low GI Carbs, giving it far less benefit for insulin response & post workout nutritionLast edited by ScottyMac710; 02-18-2012 at 03:07 PM.
