Default To Old to Sart Competing

So my sister is wanting to Compete in I think a professional bikini contest. She has never done anything like this before. The only athletic thing she did was run track in highschool. She thinks that she may be told she is 32 years old. I told her that if it is what she wants to do to go for it. Is there an age limit for competing and how and where should she start?

She should go for it and don't let anybody tell her any different. It's going to be a lot of work and dedication, but if she has her mind set she can achieve it

She has to be COMMITTED to the journey and know what discipline it will take....all that in mind and on course - GO FOR IT!! There are "Masters" divisions btw! I've seen many women in their 40's AND 50's that can put some of the young girls to absolute shame!

32 is still young in this sport. I know lots of woman who did not compete until way past that age and they are incredible. Most look 10-15 years younger than they are.

    ^TRUTH!!

I just turned 44. I started competing last year. Took 2nd in Masters AND Open classes at my first pro-qualifier last fall. I have no intention of stopping any time soon.

I didn't step on stage until 2008, I was 33 years old. I'm 37 now and have been on stage 5 times and am on the up and up, feeling better than I have ever felt, looking better than I have looked when i was 25. NEVER too late.

To clarify, if you're talking about competing in the NPC, it would be an AMATEUR bikini comp - you'd have to win & qualify to compete for a pro card. For some other "pro bikini" thing (e.g. Hawaiian Tropic), that's something different.

No reason age should be an issue. I did my first show at age 35 - that was 12 years ago & I"m still competing.

......I had to go find my log in just to reply to this. (Usually am a lurker).

Just for some points of reference, Sonia Gonzales, the 1st Bikini Olympia winner & current 2012 Bikini International Arnold classic winner is in her 30s. Some internet stats have her at 31 and 32 in between the years of 2009-2010. Now adding a few years on to that...you can do the math.

I would also add that Jaime Baird is an IFBB bikini pro who I believe is currently 34.

Granted, these ladies didn't start training/competing at 32 but as others have said here, the committment to hard work has to be there.

I say she should go for it.

You're only too old if you think you are too old. Keep in mind that you compete for yourself. The statistical chance of assuming a pro card after 1-2 shows is pretty slim so don't make your goal all about the pro card and you have never even competed. Most people have a long story behind every win and everyone has to start somewhere. You never lose by going after a show prep. It can be the most educational & rewarding achievement of your life. Anything else is just icing on top. But AGE is the LAST thing that should keep you from trying.
