Type of protein?
I am going on dave's keto diet and have some question about protein choice. I know that an isolate should be used because some protein powders have to many carbs and can throw you out of ketosis. But I am a poor college kid and really cant afford a whey protein isolate or the food to replace the shakes. I was on trueprotein.com and saw some other forms of protein that are cheaper but was wondering if they are ok and if they react differently. They are rice protein isolate and soy protein isolate. The two types both had about the same carb and protein amounts as whey protein isloate. What do you guys think?

Stick with whey. Lots of research hint at the leucine content of whey being the regulator of protein synthesis by influence the MTOR signalling pathway. Soy or Rice proteins probably wont have much leucine - though I've not checked. Whey also has the best BCAA profile.
I'd say if you can't afford the isolate dont sweat it and get the WPC. Yes it has a couple carbs/fat per serving but just adjust your macro's elsewhere in the diet!

the 2 you mentioned are really bad choices. if your really strapped just go to walmart and get this. or buy 3 or 4 of them online and get free shipping. its not too bad. its a great deal for the price. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Body-Fortr...otein/10322406

as a side note. eggs, bulk frozen chicken, and canned tuna can be found on good sales real cheap. boil the shit in bulk as you buy it, put it in bags per serving in the fridge and you have cheap instant meals that beat any protein sup there is.

As others have stated- don't opt for sub par supplements. If you can't get a quality whey powder stick to whole sources like eggs, lean meat, and nuts.

Pea protein is a good, and cheaper, substitute to whey protein. It's leucine content is comparable to whey. I also take a leucine supplement. I've been consuming pea protein for a while and don't think it has given me less progress than whey. This is probably also due to the problems I have with dairy, even lacking the lactose. So I also try to only consume raw and cultured dairy in my diet. Just try some different things and see what works best for your body.

Both NTBM and muscle feast make great proteins and they both offer discounts codes too. Those are my own personal favorites that I would go with.
Whey and casien with suppelments and with food I would go with red meat and then chicken, tuna, and eggs
