Coan squated only once a week, guys like rippe squat 3 times a week, and Pat mendez squats everyday
How often do you squat and whats worked best for you?
Whats ur current 1RM or Triple
I squat once a week 5/3/1 but am now going to add in more squats on deadlift day but moderate weight not heavy.

got old, dont back squat anymore, but do fronts on the smith.
when I competed, I squated twice a week, one 5/3/1 and one more volume oriented using the sled and hacks as well.

For powerlifting and strongman 1-2 days a week seems to be ideal. Some Oly guys will squat 3-6 days a week but I will point out at as a whole powerlifters have a much stronger squat than Oly guys.
For 1-2 days a week most will do a heavy day with 1-5 rep max and a lighter day for speed, possibly with bands. This is how I do my squats but during season I don't typically do the speed day.
My best PR's with with wide stance box squat in briefs are 730 for a single, and 690 for triple

I wanna point out as well that even though powerlifters lift more weight
generally they use less ROM, powerlifting= make the lift easiest as possible so minimalize ROM hence why guys do sumo deads, wide squats and wide bench.
Oly guys lift through greatest ROM it seems...
I dunno how guys like Pat mendez though do squats x2 a day 6-7 days a weekNot on a Keto diet

Assuming the PL is going below parallel does it really matter if they are shortening the ROM? Building strength is building strength.
Even as an athlete there is very very few times that you would need or want to be in a position where your ass is touching your ankles like you see many Oly guys do while squatting.

I agree with that. Seems though the Oly guys are really athletic with crazy verts and what not... I do agree though they are lacking in the strength dept. at least in the united states. lol sorry for getting of subject im scatter brained...
Glad to here u like squats x2 a week because im really excited to start doing squat work on deadlift day as well its own dayNot on a Keto diet

Yes thats serious. I ride every week. Sometimes 3 days, an hour a day. Does more for my legs than squats.

it looks like squating everyday is starting to take its toll on Pat Mendez...as I haven't seen him hit his previous PRs anymore and seems to be on the decline, at such an early age. But to get at his training regimen (John Broz training), you just squat everyday and get through the pain until your legs adapt. From what I've heard, this type of training worked in eastern europe because its what the coaches did to weed out everyone and leave only the blessed few who were freak athletes...and they probably did a bunch of gear too.
I squat close stance, atg, on Sundays....and on Deadlift days I'll do some wide-stance, powerlifting like box squats. So on Sunday I burn the quads and on thursday I get to hit the posterier chain of musclsLast edited by pfunk; 03-26-2012 at 03:51 PM.

Every other week, I'm only 28 and after 7 years of training, I have 1 fucked left shoulder, 1 fucked right hip , and a pair of fucked Knees, being self employed mechanic I can't afford to fuck anything any worse than it already is!

i think your opinion of strongmen is a little flawed. Just to give you a few examples, Bryan Shaw(current WSM) played college basketball. Andy Vincent and Mike Jenkins played pro football, and i believe there are several more that played pro but I know for a fact those guys did, and there are many many that played D1 football. Ive personally seen ortmayer jump onto a 52" stack of tires at 325lbs.
Point being, top tier Oly lifters are no more athletic than top tier strongmen
