I am currently having a long off-season. I haven't competed since 2009. I am getting married this year, so competition plans are on hold. However, after a long decision that I have been sitting on, I have decided to try the new physique division. I am currently working with Noel Fuller and I think he is awesome. After trying to lose a little weight, my body was not responding. According to Noel, I have some metabolic damage from many years of dieting with the keto diet and doing excessive amounts of cardio. So, now we are working on getting my metabolism back and my body used to carbs. I do have hypothyroidism so I am being monitored constantly by my dr. It is such a struggle! So, for now my plan is eating clean and eating a moderate amount of carbs, protein, and some good fats. However, I am not used to doing no cardio! I have been a cardio freak since I was 14 years old. I have to say, I love doing cardio! So for 6 weeks, I am just lifting, no cardio and doing the diet. Then Noel will change things up. I am having great workouts and I finally getting my squats back up. I will post a video of me doing 225lb deep squats for 3 reps. I feel much stronger and I know that I have to heal my body. Mentally it is tough but I will get through it. I have a lot of time. I want to make my physique debut in the summer of 2013. Will keep you all posted through the months on workouts, videos, etc.

Definitely post your workouts and update us on what Noel is doing with your diet. I am curious to see how he fixes the metabolic damage!

Well, right now he has me on 200g protein, 150grams carb and 16grams fat. I was on low carb for so long that he increased my carbs. Of course I gained 5lbs but now my weight is staying the same. Noel says this is good because my body is stabilizing and getting used to carbs again. He has me doing no cardio because my body is so used to doing a lot of cardio. As far as my workouts, I alternate heavy weights, low reps one week and then do high reps, low weight another week. I am also starting to incorporate giant sets and super-sets. I have gone heavy with low reps for so long that I am getting bored and my body needs a change. Today is legs, so I will post later my workout for this week.

It's funny you are doing no cardio, some diet gurus still have you doing cardio, some more cardio than others......

No cardio right now. I am resetting the metabolism by eating more carbs than I usually do. My weight is staying steady. Noel's approach is not excessive cardio. In 2 weeks he will change things. I see his clients come in ripped and not doing such excessive cardio.

This is a good thing! I am ultra carb sensitive....wonder what more carbs would do to me!

At first when you go up with the carbs you gain weight but then your weight starts to stabilize. I have done low carb for so long that my body is not responding and not burning fat. I am eating 150g of carb and not gaining weight. My metabolism is so shot and needs to be repaired. I am going through the process. Mentally it is tough because I want to lose weight and look good but I also want my body to be healthy again. You should talk to Noel. He has a lot of information on this.

So I made it through my first week of doing high reps and lower weight. I hate doing high reps but I needed a change. I am sore! Especially the legs! Still going back and forth on how to downsize and be happy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Great article! I'll be following along. Interested to see how your diet and training change as your metabolism gets repaired.
