So here’s a rant…
So when I first started this little journey, I was out of shape, fat and just wanted to be healthy… I put my quest above just about everything else and as time went on, I made great progress, but realized I was making a mistake. I shouldn’t have put this ahead of the important things, but of course it took me forever and a day to realize that. So sometime last year, I started trying to change things around, I would skip a workout when my wife came home after a shitty day at work and just hang out, I would play outside with the kids and try and squeeze that workout into the next day… It was working, but damn does it get hard to keep moving things around, there is only so much time in the week… So now I’m out of that Honeymoon stage in my fitness journey where I could look at a weight and make progress and really need to be 100% all the time, day in and day out… But how is that possible to do with everything else? There has got to be a happy medium somewhere… Now I have this desire to make another push, because I’m just not happy with where I am at now. But I don’t want to fall back into the “putting fitness” ahead of everything else… So what do I do? Can I have my cake and eat it too?

Inb4 family first
Srs. I know she knows how important it is to you, and like you have I have discussed, you can almost always find 45mins a few times a week to train all while keeping the fam happy...you said yourself you are at least 80% on point...that's better than some who fall off the wagon for months and just give up...them get back on for a few months, then back off for months....you have done a great job with finding that balance and picking yourself back up when you fall....Training / Prep / Off-season coach: Kevin McDowell / Extreme One

Go into beast mode for prioritization. What can you strip away from your schedule to allow for the family time you desire?
I'm a general or joe blow weight trainer, but I still have to schedule time. Stripped regular TV out of the equation more than a decade ago to allow for ridiculous amounts of Internet time. Lol
Good luck.Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Join Rx Muscle on Facebook!

So.. let me ask you
is training or getting in a workout more important than your wife and kids?
because in reality Last, You, or myself will never collect paychecks off hitting workouts, or meeting X/Y Macros in a given day.
one of the biggest struggles with this industry/hobby is finding the balance because it is consuming 1, and 2 its a passion for us which we hate to miss workouts, we hate to miss meals, and we hate to lose our consistency/dedication because it is something we use as a way of relief (Stress relief) or to get away from our mental grind (work, stress etc).
With how many kids Last has, and such a great/supporting wife there has to be balance and not being the outcast or i cant do this or that because my workout is more important. While we are all NOT perfect, and even if we were perfect, none of us will ever be the next jay culter or ronnie coleman. This is simply a hobby, just like spending time with your family is a hobby and an important matter.
but in the end its how you want to balance your work schedule, family schedule and workouts. When in reality your job pays the bills, and your kids/wife are memories that will never be passed up for the rest of your life2013 & 2014 RX Member of the Year

Lastson's quest to become Superman...
Bob...I think u took my last post too seriously, brother.
But I agree with you - it can be a struggle (mentally) at least for me, if I don't hit my macros exactly....severely? No..not anymore, at least.
Previously, it would mind fuck me if I skipped a meal or wasn't on point with my macros...why? I guess b/c I pay someone to set this up for me, and I have goals to accomplish, so I'm my own worst enemy at the end of the day.....now add that to my OCD like any other competitor and you have an additional goal to accomplish..Last edited by Hoss06; 07-24-2014 at 02:13 PM.

I think balance is more of a state of mind than anything else. I also feel ultimately there is no equal balance in it largely depending on your goals.
Maybe you just need to look at what you really want more. Do you want to be a bodybuilder? Or do you just want to be fit and healthy. Less fat more muscle.
If you feel like you want to really be a body builder or do at least 1 show then you need to have a real sit down with the mrs and talk about what it's going to take from you do it.
If you would rather just get in better shape and make it a little more of a priority than it is now well you will also have to talk to the mrs about it but consider having more flexibility on your diet. I know it's not easy for some. But if you think about more of being healthy and not shredded then the little things like an unexpected meal or missed workout will be of little concern because the ultimate goal is still reachable.
Idk I'm still a kid in this but I have spent a lot of time changing my outlook on all this and. Learning to take things as they come. Also discussing with my SO constantly about what I'm doing and want to do so we both are on the same page.
Your a good guy Greg so I am sure it will work out manI wish I was a little bit taller. I wish I was a baller.

Like i have stated many times
Sometimes the hardest deecisions are the best decisions where Family, time with your kids and wife will be life long memories far greater than missing a workout or a meal. even if you pay someone life happens.. Things happen... But your kids and wife will be things you cherish forever. even if weightlifting is OUR major hobby i agree i hate missing meals and workouts, but things happen (Work, family, friends etc)2013 & 2014 RX Member of the Year

Shit I think your doing pretty well with everything your juggling around!
I think in the end its about whatever makes you happy. If missing a workout or a meal stress' you out (like most of us) then to stay happy don't miss. Even though its a hobby and we aint makin money you still gotta be happy whatever your doing.
With that said its all about the scheduling and coordination of how and when to fit everything in. There is always a way. 6 P's applies Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.
You know I'm a family guy too and work off of shit you decide to make up (lol)
Perfect example of my day was today.
My wife gets home around 830pm I get to sleep around 9 ish get up at 3am do cardio, prepare meals for the day, cook and eat go to work. Get out at 2pm head home to change, take pre wo etc.. train from about 330-430 run to get my son and get home by 515. Hang with him while I eat a few more times and wait for my wife to get home at 830 so we can bullshit before I hit the sac.
On the weekends I get up same time at 3am eat and train, get back home to eat again before family wakes up and spend the whole day with them.
The food prep, cooking and eating is more time than the training but I can do all that with them here.
I pretty much did the same throughout my prep too.
Of course I never miss anything but I would no doubt if something came up that was more important. Typically I just schedule around whatever it is and not make the training priority.
I have to eat any way so that part is ok
Taking it up a notch wont require any more time then what you've already been doing.
You can do it ( in that movie voice, cant remember the name)Stop by my Training Log: RichDC2's Log

wow I have been MIA over here for a long long time... and I swear I responded to Rich..
Anyways, Rich you are correct on all accounts and I'm sorry that you have to make the stuff I draw up... lol
Things have been super busy, kids being home my babysitters are pretty much gone now and I'm trying to get ahead of things at work knowing I'll be making the trip to Vegas pretty soon..
I also bought a new toy and we all know how consuming new toys can be...
But still training, although this week has been bad, I'm still getting in my workouts and cardio, meals are always the same and I'm dropping. Down to 197/198... I've pretty much decided that I'm going to train in the morning starting next week. With my kids back in school, my wife's nutty schedule and work, it's the only way I'm going to stay consistent.
I'm also going to make sure and keep this a little more up to date... In the meantime... My new baby..
