optimal amount of fishoil per day?
is there an optimal amount or does it depend on things like bodyweight and omega 6 consumption? currently i take 6000mili per day split into two doses. I'm about 185.

Interesting... I was going to say 6 to 8 grams a day and you are at 6 so there we go! Two heads are better than one.

it's important to note that some fish oil is stronger (more O3) than others
most have 180DHA/120EPA per 1000mg
but some are stronger (I think Species Omegalyze has more)

Yes, its important to take into account the epa/dha count in your fish oil if you really care about its true benefits.
I'm a big fan of GNC Triple Strength for this reason. Aside from having one of the highest epa/dha ratios, it's also not made in China, but enteric coated and purified.

Don't waste your money on prescription fish oil there's little to no benefit from OTC fish oil. Only reason to get prescription fish oil would be that your insurance pays for it. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21063431
"CONCLUSION: A six-month supplementation of identical doses of EPA+DHA led to a faster and higher increase in the omega-3 index when consumed as triacylglycerides than when consumed as ethyl esters."

Carlson's Liquid Fish Oil is great and cheap. I think it really depends on your dietary intake of omega-3. If your diet is sufficient with Omega-3 then supplementation with fish-oil is really minimally needed if not none.

Well the way i see it as far as getting it from natural sources basically everyone is deficient unless you catch the fish yourself. since most fish is farm raised they eat corn which alters there omega 3 content to mostly omega 6s. you are what you eat. Also i do notice and improvement in my mood when i take fish oil in higher does. almost like a buzz of well being. anyone else notice this?

I also think too much fishoil could have a negative impact since it works as an anti inflamatory it could affect the imflamation needed for muscle growth.

As mentioned not all fish oils are created equal in regards to their content of EPA/DHA per gram.
I shoot for about 3g/day of combined EPA/DHA and I try to do so so with a fish oil that has higher concentrations of EPH/DHA. I chose this as a target based on comments from Dana Houser but at the moment I cannot find his comments or evidence that suggest that to be a good target.Last edited by Cooker; 05-12-2012 at 07:43 PM.
