Would going for the "Old School Arnie Physique", HURT of HELP the modern bodybuilder in Competition?
I was wondering since we know mass rules all as well as modern AAS usage...............but I often wonder what if someone came close to the look and size of Arnold in say the 75 Olympia, what would happen? Discuss...........

Would look the best, but get marked down on legs and glutes- didn't have that or the huge hamstrings everyone's seemingly obsessed with now. Could win USA or small pro show- get smoked at the contest that bears his name or at the O.

Would do as well as Major League Baseball Pitcher throwing 75mph fastballs or a 230lb Offensive Lineman. Times changed, for better or worse.

Arnold's physique wouldn't win the Jr. USA today.

In my opinion if you're an every day wanna be competitor doing local/regional/ or even national shows your best bet is to shoot to look like Dorian Yates, because the odds of you looking like him are about a million to 1. But just trying your best to look like him will likely have you looking like a "classic" physique. It takes special genetics to try and look like an IFBB pro and it actually turn out that way.

I agree with that. The big difference between those days and now is the legs and glutes. Not too many bodybuilders had great legs in the '70's (except for Tom Platz and Mentzer and a few others). It's also about that freaky hardness today. Different drugs, different times.

why say the '75? Because Gaines and Butler decided to make a docudrama that year? None of the top guys in the tall class were in the shape that year except Nubret.
If we want to try to compare Arnold at a size suggesting his potential for ultimate muscularity to the size and shape of modern competitive bb'ers, look at him at the '71 Mr. O. According to Arnold he was 18lbs bigger in '71 than in '75.
He's 246 pounds here, versus just 228 in '75.
