Best-seller ... sexually explicit Fifty Shades of Grey
A BOOK described as “mummy porn” has beaten the likes of Harry Potter in the UK book sales chart.
Fifty Shades of Grey - about a depraved relationship between a young female virgin and her rich older lover - is now the fastest selling paperback since records began.
Author and mum-of-two EL James – real name Erika Mitchell - has beaten JK Rowling and Da Vinci Code author Dan Brown to the UK record with the first instalment of her X-rated trilogy.
The novel sold more than 100,000 paperback copies last week alone – a success most of the Harry Potter books and all of the Twilight novels failed to match.
At first, most sales of The Fifty Shades series were of the more discreet ebook version.
But as the trilogy’s popularity soared, so have the book sales – Fifty Shades of Grey has been Britain’s best-selling book for the past nine weeks.
Meanwhile the three books in the series have held the top three spots on the UK paperback book chart for the past six weeks.
Boffins put the success of the sexy books – deemed “mummy porn” –down to frustrated middle-aged mums.
A spokesman for Nielsen Book-Scan who complies the official chart figures said: “The success has not been driven by people who regularly buy books, but by people who buy maybe three or four books a year.
“The books have crossed into the mass market. Clearly, people aren’t embarrassed by it anymore.”
Erika, 49, is now said to be worth £4million after signing book deals and a Hollywood movie contract.

~ Ok without sounding like a perv, I've read probably more than my fair share of erotic literature and I'm half way through the first instalment of Fifty Shades and though there is some erotic-porn-like scenes in it, I have read SO much better!!
So maybe I've become too accustomed to reading this kind of stuff, but I really don't get what the big deal is with this particular book?? Or is it just because it is the first one to go as main stream that pushes the limits to what is classed as a 'normal sexual relationship' ... What is it about this book that makes it stand out from all the rest??
I don't know if it has even hit America yet but I can't pick up a newspaper or turn on TV news with out some kind of mention of it!! The whole of the UK's sex lives are being transformed with this book ...

The sales in sex toys are meant to be flying off the shelves in stores ...

Anyone else read it yet?? ~

It sounds like this book is the "entry drug" for the probably very large and very silent "middle-age, sexually frustrated women" of the world who have given up most of their adult lives to be good moms and obedient wives. They have discretionary income but haven't worked up the confidence to go buy actual sex toys yet. So they are starting with this book, which appears to have gotten a certain amount of "acceptance" in the media, which makes it less attention-drawing if they go buy it.

Not really. Not that I am an afficianado of erotica, its more like if you've spent 10 minutes around women's bodybuilding, you can't help but get some flavor of the fetish aspect of that. So its old news to me, but further, its not really something I have interest in. I'm not a big fan of 'power control' in a relationship.

~ I read a lot of Black Lace Erotic books ... Written BY Women FOR Women, and compared to erotic fiction written by men I've read I don't think they can be beat!! I'm pretty sure you can get them over the pond!! They are not ALL about women being dominated by men either, there is pretty much anything for every ones tastes in their collection of titles!! ~
