Default Doing Bench Exercises on the Floor

This guy does bench exercises (like bench press & triceps extensions) on the floor. Is this a good idea?

A good idea for what? It depends on what your goals are.

I haven't watch the video yet ( phone ) but if it's basic floor presses than , yes, they are great for developing the upper pecs as well as over all . When I began training I did them because I didn't have a bench, but got away from them . In 02 I was encouraged to try them from a powerlifting friend . My chest was behind so I figured I'd give it a shot . i used a close grip ( index finger just off smooth center part of barbell ) . Between Dec 02 and Nov 03 i made my greatest progress in the area . Great exercise . One suggestion . Try to do them without resting them on the Power rack . Support the weight yourself . I hope that makes sense .

Ps.. I just clicked video .. exactly as he performs them , unsupported . Only difference for My purpose was the width of the grip . AWESOME exercise ... I will say some find them to be as difficult or even harder than traditional bench press.. especially if rest pausing for 3 sec ..

In this vid I take a 3 second pause to prevent bouncing off the floor . Because the tricep n elbow hits the ground it is very easy to bounce or gain a boost to the lift . Still beneficial, but the rest / pause will prevent that and help you target the pecs more . I'm not showing a close grip here, but when I got great results from this exercise that is the one I used .

i don't like barbell floor presses but i don't mind them with a dumbbell although you can't go as heavy.

Its good for overall strength because you don't necessarily isolate the targeting muscle comparitavely like you would on flat bench. This way he is using a lot of overall stabilizing muscles when he balances himself.

I'd never try it because my forearms seem long as hell lol I'd probably hit the ground with my elbows before I got down 2/3 of the way.
