Brand New Journal: Moving up two classes from welters in 2010 to lightheavies in 2013 Masters Nats.
I've been spending a lot of my time in the Offseason section thread of the Contest section. I've learned a lot about what these younger guys are doing and developed some friendships too. But since I've decided exclusively to compete in the 2013 Masters Nationals I thought that this is the place I needed to be. Missed all you guys in here. Hope you accept me back.
My orginial plans were to compete in this year's Nationals in Atlanta but some things came up and I'm unable compete. I have my sites set on next year's Masters Nationals in Pittsburgh. My physique is much bigger these days from when I won the over 40s welters and I hope to bring by far my best package ever on stage next summer.
Now, I'm just concentrated on eating right, training heavy but smart and to grow into possibilities the lightheavyweight class. I currently way 202 and I'm well under 10% BF and my goal is to get my lean bodyweight up to around 215. I won't be the biggest lightheavyweight on stage but at only 5 foot 5 I will be thick enough to hold my own as long as I can come in completed shredded and dry. We'll just see how it goes.
Here's a couple of pics taken this week at 202.

This level of conditioning and muscularity can only be achieved with years of dedication. You are and remain very inspiring Kevin.

Here's a rear lat shot. It's an aread I've been workin to thicken up. I know I have to keep growing if I'm gonna be competitive at Masters Nats in Lightheavy. I'm 202 here. Need to be 215 in this shape before I begin to diet down.

I just caught up on your Prep thread, great reading. You look amazing, and to think I competed as a light heavy was absurd when I see you pics. I am already making my plans for the next three years for Masters 2015. Your dedication and progress is inspiring.

Juice, Thanks buddy. I really appreciate those words!
Ha, I wish it would be that easy James. Moving up to lightheavies is going to be a huge jump for me. I was a welterweight in 2010 when I was making my comeback. I have grow a lot since then and feel I'll look my best as a lightheavy but I know how deep and stacked that class is at the Masters. I just keep bustin my tail and see where I end up.
Thanks Joel! I trained really hard this past two years. Right now, I'd do much better as a middleweight at Masters but winning isn't as important to me as it used to be. Yes, I want to win but I just want to go in next summer and beat the crap out of my previous best. I am no where near as big enough to come in at 198ish I'm hoping to just keep steadily growing and be somewhere in the mid to upper 180s. Thanks again Joel.

Kevin,
You are going to be a tremendous light heavy.........and at 5'5" you are goingt o be thick as @#$%!! The Master's Nats ( Over 50 Middleweight) is definitely on my schedule for next summer as well so I will finally have the priveledge of meeting you. In fact, my best friend Eric Brugh, who won the Superheavies Over 40 a couple of years ago, is going to do the show again too. This time as an Over 50 SHWT. It will be great that so many of us are doing the show............definitely will spend time together after the show replenishing our glycogen stores!I ain't talking no trash....I ain't making no predictions...I'm just showing up.

Awesome job Kevin. I think as a LHW at 5-5, you can definitely do some damage at Masters Nat's with your shape and muscualrity.

Thanks Last! You've made some huge improvments in your physique. Keep it going buddy!
Thanks Keith! I know I have an uphill battle moving up to a class like this at my age. But I'm still growing and getting better so why not right?
Yes, we'll have to have a really good meal and drinks after the show.
Rick,
You've been there and you are a seasoned veteran with lots of accomplishments and wins yourself. Although I'd stand out more as a middleweight I feel like I've been holding myself back with my passion. If I move up to lightheavies and I don't get a pro card, so what. If I got a pro card as a middleweight that would have been great (not saying that I would have) but I owe it to myself to see how good I can be while I'm still able to train this hard and make improvements. Sheer size alone you're right never wins a contest. By you saying that my shape and muscularity will show up on stage with the judges that means a lot. Thanks Rick!

No major bodypart training today. Took a long hike thru woods with son. About 2 1/2 hours. Of course I carried the backpack full of waters and snacks.and by the end I was tired and hot.
Just doing Abs and calves 2night.

Quads this morning. Good workout, nothing crazy heavy and I've been wrapping knees with every set of squats now over 225 and it's made a difference so knees are holding pretty well these days. Hacks squats are still out for me.
Leg Extensions: 4x15-20
Single Leg Press: 4x15-20
Barbell Squats: 5x15-20 (225, 275, 315, 315, 315) 315 feels like 405 when doing these last!
DB Lunges: 3x25
Single Leg Extensions: 2x25 (I really like doubling back to leg extensions one leg at a time it really blows my teardrops up.
