Denard Robinson: I could beat Usain Bolt in 40 yard sprint

As if everyone didn’t already know, the Olympics proved that Usain Bolt is fast—some even declare him to be the fastest man ever.
But for 40 yards, Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson thinks he might be faster.

“I’ve watched him run, and I’m pretty sure I can beat him in a 40-yard dash,” Robinson told reporters at Michigan’s media day Sunday. “I’d get a better start, and I could take him.”
Bolt won the 100 meters in London in an Olympic-record 9.63 seconds and then captured the 200 meters in 19.32 seconds to sweep the two sprints in back-to-back Olympics.
And Robinson is not all to blame for the remarks. He had a little support.
“Denard could do that in a heartbeat—he’s the fastest man in the world,” Wolverines backup quarterback Devin Gardner told Fox Sports Detroit. “I know what Usain Bolt did in the Olympics, and Denard probably couldn’t beat him at 100 meters, but when it comes to football speed at 40 yards, I’d take Denard. He’s that fast.”
Robinson’s speed will be on display Sept. 1 when Michigan opens against defending BCS national champion Alabama—owners of one of college football’s stingiest defenses—in Dallas.

I think he could honestly.. Bolt's start is usually pretty poor compared ot the rest of the field and dominates the race the last 50meters, not the first

Assuming this guy is that fast, I'd be expecing under 4.2/40 speed, maybe 4.1. OK, but who wants to see a 4 second race? What does that really prove? And why settle for 40 meters? Why not 30 or 20 meters? No one, except for those
at NFL combine ever record those numbers. If he wants to be legit, then at least run at indoor limit of 55 meters. At least that is where people actually compete.
This reminds me of Kevin Levrone saying he could beat Donovan Bailey over a short distance - when he was competing. Obviously when they raced, it didn't go as predicted.

Why would the worlds fastest man lower his standards to race some guy who has no sprinting credentials at all... If anything Robinson should do his race not the other way around...

You can't take the comparison of seeing somebody run 100m and then say they would beat them in 40m race. It's a completely different race. It's like if I watched a guy run a 400m race and then say "Well, I'd beat him in a 200m race because my 200m time is faster than his first 200 meters when he's running a 400 meter race."
