Oooh Girl! I am jealous of those "boulder shoulders!"
You look great! As I said under my journal...Stage Smash is imminent! I do hope your rib holds up. And you sound like you have a sensible plan in place when your season is done. Heal up nice & strong...then watch out...I think we have another physique mama coming our way!
Wishing you all the best Ariel!

Well how about I get back into blogging. I've been super busy with work and training which has caused some slack in my updates.
How about some new stats: I'm a little bit over 5'4'' and weighing 163lbs right now. I have spent a decent amount of time FEEDING my body and stimulating my metabolism. I believe I was dangerously teetering on metabolic damage after North Americans. I weighed 118lbs on stage. While it has been extremely difficult to be heavier, thicker, beefy-er, I have been able to work on some negative food behaviors and thinking patterns that have developed over the past few years (which started before competing and escalated). I even took a few weeks completely off of cardio--which was super difficult mentally for me. I felt like I was getting fatter by the day... Fortunately, I have an awesome support system and boyfriend who, everyday would tell me how beautiful and wonderful I am (regardless of the extra weight). That made all the difference...
I have been seeing much about metabolic damage and dangerous dieting in the competitive circles (Plug for SiouxCountry, thank you Jason for all you do to educate women and competitors). I was part of that bandwagon due to lack of knowledge and respect for my body. While I don't believe there is any permanent damage to my system, I know that this year is different and I will NOT be crashing like I have my previous three shows.
Right now I'm consuming 1800-2500 calories a day depending on workouts and hunger. I stick mostly to Paleo carbs (fruits, veggies, sweet potato) and eat a lot of fats :-D!!!
I'm so excited for this competition season because of all the muscle that has just exploded since I've started eating properly and lifting HEAVY-AS-HELL. I was back and forth between figure and physique but I think I've settled on doing what I want to do deep down. I want to pose, have a routine, and get as big as I can. Maybe I have a better chance as a toned down figure girl, maybe get a pro card there but why? So I can have a pro card? Don't get me wrong that is a goal of mine but I much rather do it having fun then feeling like I'm holding back or not fulfilling what I truly want.
Do it for you. Have fun. That's the point, right???

"Do it for you. Have fun. That's the point, right???" <-- Absolutely! I think all of us fitness women have a point in time when we don't always feel 100%. It's only natural. In a way I believe it humbles us for the overwhelming amount of joy and success that is to come in the future. Training means so much more when our motivation is ourselves. Hope you have a great weekend!

Ariel, hope you're still lifting and growing. I know it's time and work to get on here and journal but I've enjoyed reading it all.
