Anyone every tried / heard of this style of training?

The basis of it is that each 2-4 week phase is dedicated to a specific body part, and you will focus your efforts on that body part by training it 3 times a week. On top of this, you will do a full body "maintenance" session twice a week so to ensure you don't lose any size / strength on your other body parts.

For example if Shoulders was the objective of your first phase your training might look like this:

Mon - Shoulders Heavy
Tues - Full Body (excluding shoulders) (2-3 sets per body part)
Wed - Shoulders Light
Thurs - Off
Fri - Shoulders Medium
Sat - Full Body (excluding shoulders) (2-3 sets per body part)
Sun - Off

And then after doing this for 2-4 weeks you do the same but for say Back instead.

It's an interesting theory with the argument being that to obtain significant hypertrophy, it is just too taxing to attempt to make significant gains on your whole body at the same time. I am skeptical though, because if hypertrophy worked as outlined in this programme, then how come you don't see bodybuilders constantly trying to "balance out" their body proportions? Usually from what I've seen, growth seems to take place everywhere at once - you can't really decide to slap on some enromous delts over a few months, and then try and slap on some pecs to match over the next months. It just doesn't seem to work like that.
