This should have been a historic night of boxing, with upsets of arguably the best pound for pound fighters in the world.

First off, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai defeats Chocolatito Gonzales by a close split decision, surprising everyone by dropping Gonzales in the first round. Tough gritty fight and what a backstory as Srisaket had to eat from garbage cans to survive... now he's the champion.

It should have been another upset... Daniel Jacobs fought a brilliant tactical fight against GGG, getting up from the canvas in round 4, but not losing focus, moving brilliantly, keeping GGG off balance and not allowing him to get in more than one good shot... There were very few combinations from GGG and he was reduced to loading up trying to land the haymaker.

Jacobs through good combinations, while never hurting GGG, did enough for GGG to respect him, while smothering him at times to neutralize GGG's power. Hi
s trainer called a great fight, being honest with him about where he was in the fight.... save perhaps the last round where he probably should have urged him to win the round without being reckless.

This may also have been the first time GGG may have shown his age... he'll be 35 shortly, and against these bigger fighters like Jacobs (who technically may not have won the title tonight because he didn't show up at 2nd weigh-in), he didn't show he had the power to hurt them, nor did he show the punch output we are used to seeing, and he did not go to the body to try to slow Jacobs down......I now believe Andre Ward would beat GGG handidly.

If they have a rematch, we may very well see the same outcome. Jacobs KNOWS he can beat him, and he can take GGG's punching power. Even with the knockdown, which was legit, he didn't hurt Jacobs.

As for the scorecards, I can't see how GGG won by 3 rounds on 2 cards 115 - 112.. I know some of those early rounds were close, but I had Jacobs winning 114-113.

Maybe this will expedite the Canelo/Chavez Jr winner fight. GGG looked a bit old and very beatable in this fight, but Canelo and Chavez may be more willing to trade, but again time is running out.

115-112 isn't by 3 rounds. It's 7-5 with an extra point for the knockdown. Danny Jacobs fought a very smart fight. I thought the first 3 rounds sucked and didn't score them. The last nine I scored 5-4 for Jacobs and with the knockdown, that made it even. So those first 3 rounds made the difference and since neither did anything and GGG pressed forward, I can see how he got 2 out of those 3 rounds. Time will tell if GGG is aging or if Danny just posed problems with his size, skillset and ability to switch back and forth. Danny subtly did some really good body work which may have slowed GGG down or at the least taken some starch out of his punches. I didn't watch the HBO broadcast so I didn't see compubox until after the fight. It was fairly wide in GGG's favor. If Canelo pusses out of the fight, we'll see a rematch probably before the end of the year. I'm not sure if Danny can do any better. If he opens up any more, he makes himself vulnerable to GGG's arsenal. Time will tell.

I thought the Chocolatito fight was one of the most brutal, yet skilled fights I've ever seen. I also think Chocolatito got fucked. Watching it on a british stream, I thought Choc won 10-2 as did Dan Rafael of ESPN. Admittedly, all the rounds had plenty of back and forth and maybe I credit Choc for closing rounds stronger than the Thai warrior. Again, the compubox numbers were huge in Choc's favor. 150 more landed. 95 more power landed. Over 1000 thrown. Even though I had it wide I admit many rounds were close. I think the Thai warriors backstory may have played a part in the judging. They are only human.

Bummed because I wanted to see him go for 50-0.

Oh well. Great night of boxing. What a start to the year. Long over due.

Andre Ward is just too big for GGG. End of story. GGG could fight at 154 comfortably. He is not a very big man.

Andre Ward needs to fight Kovalev right away or he is a "piece of shit" as the Krusher would say.

Been a while since i posted here. Glad to see you guys keeping it up.

Ggg vs jacobs. Close competitive fight. Props to jacobs for not getting goaded into a brawl and playing it smart. Ggg won imo 115-112 is what i had. His jab and dictating the pace, controlling the ring, not taking a step back, accuracy is what won it for me. Close fight. Could have gone to jacobs and i wouldnt be mad. But i think it was a clear win for me. For ppl upset with ggg he could have more but it really speaks to jacobs ability. Oscar already saying this fight drops gggs stock and he has less bargaining power for the canelo fight....all when canelo hasnt fought a 160er with jacobs pedigree....

Chocolatito was the bigger shocker....he won that fight clearly for me. Landed way more punches and had thai dude backing up constantly....that thai guy can fight though. Big puncher and didnt back down. He landed some leather on roman, but he also took 4 to 5 shot combinations at multiple times....likewise i really wanted chocolatito hit 50 wins....judges took that away from him.

This weekend crolla vs linares 2. I think linares beats him again and by a wider margin but they are fighting in uk again. Linares won like 8 rds that last fight but it was a lot closer on the judges cards IMO. He needs to win every round or stop crolla (which probably wont happen) or else he might get jobbed.

Since the pac-khan fight fell apart khan might fight bradley or cotto apparently....bradley i dont mind they should have fought at 140 yrs ago. Cotto will be up at the 150s and i think khan can win that fight if cotto has aged and he doesnt try to exchange...cotto would probably still stop him thought.

Who pacman will fight, no one knows. I hope it isnt jeff horn.

I like Linares. If his skin can hold up through 12 rounds, he's even money or a live dog with anyone in or around his weight class.

Agreed. Bradley and Khan should have fought at 140. It seems to me like Khan should be able to win this on points and handily given all his physical advantages but I never, ever sleep on Tim Bradley. That guy is a straight dog and if he had any pop whatsoever, he'd be the Marvin Hagler of 140-147 pounds.

I think Khan beats Cotto on points at this stage. I hope Manny fights Broner next. Unless he's gonna fight Thurman or the winner of Brook/Spence. He and Broner could be entertaining. I'll pick Manny over Broner and Thurman. But I'll take the winner of Brook/Spence over Manny.

Please!!! Don't let it be Jeff Horn.

No matter who Manny fights, I'll be rooting strongly against him. I just think he is a piece of shit, religious fanatic and bigot.

As per mannys comments i think they were lost in translation but it was wrong for a person in his position to subjugate so many ppl with a comment like that. He should know better.

Manny is a devout homophobe. I cannot support any person of those beliefs. Not too mention his devotion to the batshit crazy president of the Philippines. Talking capital punishment for drugs?

He's a piece of shit. The little fucker got caught fucking around on his wife. She threatened to leave and take him to the cleaners along with his children. What happened next? I found Jeebus. Fuck that shit. I hate hypocrites and the worst hypocrites that I've ever encountered tend to be the most religious. Forgive the rant.

    Good to have you back.

Well I think his support for dutarte is kind of mandatory. If he is killing people for simple possession, you think he'd hesitate to smoke a congressman? maybe not manny, but he isnt someone you want to be on their bad side. He talked shit about obama in the midst of the US giving them a huge amount of foreign aid. He is a psychopath.

For a Christian person to say what he did, it still seems wrong. Everytime someone wants to judge a homosexual in the name of christianity I would like to remind them about a dude named hey-soos (Jesus) who basically is the foundation of that religion who told them it isnt their job to judge.....Also, a HUGE number of the filipino population is gay.....moreso than anywhere in north america. My wife is filipino and even she was surprised he said that. He lost all of his sponsers, especially Nike.

I think he has realized what he said was wrong, but he should have issued an apology or at least say something to not only save face, but show compassion to ppl......WWJD!?!?

Do you guys think Joseph Parker is the goods? I dont....He gets stopped in his first step up.

I think Errol Spence Beats Brook in a good competitive fight....Brook can fight off the back foot which is why I wouldnt count him out. Still probably has faster hands than spence. In terms of accuracy they are both snipers....with Spence having the edge in power.

    Should be a good fight.

Not sure about Joseph Parker. I think he is solid if not good. Is he Anthony Joshua? Nope, but I think he's top 5 material right now. Who are your top 5 heavyweights? Mine are AJ, Wlad, Wilder, Ortiz and Parker. Andy Ruiz is right there as well. I have to see Tyson Fury fight again to see what he has left before I rank him. I think if AJ beats Wlad, he and Ortiz are the top 2 heavyweights.

Spence and Brook is a tough one for me to call. So many variables. 1st, Spence's best win is Chris Algeri. 2nd, Brook coming off a pretty tough loss to GGG. 3rd, Brook having to make 147 again. Given these 3 factors I'd slightly lean towards Spence. But, if Brook is what he was before GGG? I'll take Brook. Spence does look special though. But Kell is "Special K".

Glad to have boxing back. Last year was the pits.

Oh, we're playing on words I see!!

    HW
Wlad, AJ, Wilder, ortiz I would be forced to put parker there because he the only fioghter on the cusp......Povetik was looking good going into this fight BUT all the drug busts, he hill have to be outfor a while and might not look the same sans-juice.

As per Fury.....let me try to find a photo.

I cannot see the pic you posted, but I've seen one of him recently at a purported 350lbs. I think he is done. What a shame, as he could have really put heavyweight boxing front and center just his backstory, his size, persona and loud fucking mouth. LOL.

I actually forgot about Povetkin, but to be honest, I hope the top guys all freeze him out. Too many chances. Plus, why the hell is he taking Ostarine. I've used it and it is hardly noticeable the gains you get if any.

Beefy is on the juice?!? I dont think its an even playing field to debate boxing with you anymore if your arguments are performance enhanced.....i mean, this IS the hurt business.

Ggg had 10 days to decide if he will fight bjs....golden boy said that if he takes a june fight they will take it as a slap in the face for a september fight with canelo.....what do you think? I think ggg should wait.....beating canelo has more value and significance than bjs and bjs isnt going anywhere.....he will be fighting in community centres in obscure parts of uk for a while.

I want both. I'd like to see GGG destroy BJS as a prelude to him him and Canelo in September. But, that gives team Canelo an excuse to pussy out for September. Let's not look past JCC JR. If he makes weight and has anything in the tank, he's gonna give Canelo absolute hell. Don't be shocked if it's Jr. versus GGG in September!

    AJ vs WLAD.

is AJ ready? is Wlad too old? is AJ experienced enough to to avoid the right hand of wladamir? will Wlad's chin stand up?

To his credit, outside the sam peter fight, wlad's chin improved over time, and he fought in a way that kept it out of range. If he can keep joshua behind the jab it could be a tough night for joshua. Jousha got rocked by dillian whyte being wreckless but recovered quickly....wlad is EASILY the biggest and most accurate puncher he has faced....I think Wlad puts on a good performance for his last stand, but he probably gets stopped. I would absolutely not be surprised if he pulls out a UD or even humbles AJ and stops him at some point.

    Thoughts.?
