If Stevenson ever finds his balls and fights Kovalev in Montreal or Toronto, I'll see you there!

To quote Lord Alfred Hayes (commentator from the old WWF days) "I'm certain he (David Lemieux) has no trouble finding dates on Friday nights".

Leo Santa Cruz vs Abner Mares. Pretty good fight. Not the all time classic Teddy A(sshole)tlas would have you believe. Nor did I think Santa Cruz won in a landslide. I thought it was a close fight. Santa Cruz probably pulled it out 7-5, maybe even 8-4. I have no problem with someone seeing it 6-6.
Santa Cruz: Looked better in the 2nd half of this fight than he has in 2 years and this was by far his best opponent. Perhaps had Al Haymon matched him tougher the past 2 years he'd have gotten even better and been a real threat vs Nic Walters or Lomanchenko.
Mares: Best opponent for him as well in the past 2 years. Started out ok, but technique has gotten worse over the years. Santa Cruz's come forward style should have been made for an experienced boxer/puncher like Mares. He ain't going nowhere and if he gets a shot at Walters, Lomchenko, Rigo or Gary Russel Jr., he's probably getting KTFO early.
Neither guy is a world beater and would have been run out of the ring by the likes of Hamed, Barerra, Morales, Marquez or Pacqiao.
Pretty fun undercard too. The opening bout stole the show. Think the ref may have stopped it a little too soon, but that's ok.

WAKE UP EVERYBODY!!! GGG fights tonight
Nice undercard...
Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez - wreckin' machine, punches in bunches and worn down Viloria... just too much for him... Viloria beats most, but not this guy... I can see why he's near the top of #1 pound for pound

GGG - TKO Rd 8
Superior boxer... GGG's jab landed at 58% connect rate and dominated the fight. Devastating left hook to the body put Lemieux down twice - the 2nd leading to the finish.
A tactical beatdown in every way.. and a respectable stoppage, as there was no need to get severely hurt.

What's up my man. That was a fun card. Good action fights from start to finish. My thoughts on the fighters:
Luis King Kong Ortiz might be a player in the heavyweight division. 6'4 heavyweight with an extensive amateur background, a southpaw and good pop. Question is, will anyone of name recognition fight him without being forced to?
Brian Viloria - Man, what a tough, tough man. Against any other flyweight tonight, he probably wins. He was very, very good tonight. Threw and landed a lot of punches against an absolute freak. Glad they stopped it when they did, because we don't need any more tragedies.
Chocolatito - Freak of nature. Flyweight with speed and sick power. Great defense, great chin, took a vicious body shot tonight that knocks most guys out and didn't even go down. Until Andre Ward starts fighting and fighting live bodies at that, Roman Gonzales is my p4p best fighter on the planet.
David Lemieux - He too, like Brian Viloria was almost too tough for his own good. He just couldn't match up with GGG. He is short for the weight class, and worse yet seems to have short arms. Tried his ass off and has nothing to be ashamed of. I'll bet if he had it to do over again, he'd go for the kill at the opening bell. May have not worked, but would have saved himself several rounds of severe punishment.
GGG - If Chocolatito is number 1 pound for pound, GGG is a close second. He knew Lemieux was a threat and took his game to a whole new level. His jab was absolutely sick tonight. His balance, his control of the distance, power, accuracy. His chin is solid too. I was always impressed, but I think he is a real threat to Andre Ward should they finally meet. I hope Canelo beats Cotto because Canelo will probably have the stones to fight GGG. Cotto will end up fighting Mayweather next year or anyone besides GGG if he somehow gets by Canelo.

My pound 4 pound list:
Roman Gonzales
GGG
Terence Crawford
Sergei Kovalev
Wlad Klitchko
Rigo
Manny
Canelo
Bradley
*Andre Ward (could instantly jump back into the top 3 once he starts fighting live bodies)
On the doorstep:
Cotto
Kell Brook
Keith Thurman
Erislandy Lara

Hard to argue that p4p list... although I may put American heavyweight Wilder as a "on the doorstep" candidate

And while we're at it, can we rate GGG amongst the best body punchers in history? It may be sacriligeous to compare him to Frazier, Chavez, Tyson, Macallum... but the guy either ends fights or radically changes their outcome WITH ONE PUNCH unlike anyone I've ever seen... again I've seen body shot KOs... Hopkins on De La Hoya, Roy Jones on Virgil Hill, but I wasn't EXPECTING it like with GGG

Put Mickey Ward on that list too. Yes, GGG is an ATG body puncher in my opinion. What I like about his body attack is that it isn't just a single left hook to the liver that he uses. He lands a variety of precise body punches unlike anything I've ever seen.
Tim Bradley is also a vicious body puncher. In fact, I'd argue that's been his key to success offensively speaking. He really commits to the body and although he doesn't have any one punch body shot ko's that I'm aware of, he really weakens his opponents and yes, hurts them. He hurt Provo to the body repeatedly. Which is no small task.

My wish for 2016 is that GGG and Chocolatito co-headline at least three, but preferably four cards together.
