long time no talk.
Floyd did not give a fuck. no shoulder roll, threw caution to the wind....which is ballsy considering he was prob outweighed by 20 lbs....got the stoppage, walked away from the sport 300mil richer.....he COULD have made it a quicker night, could have also made it a technical fight, but he chose to walk him down, something he has not done in a over a decade (Demarcus corley?). Good fight to watch though.
What about Chocolatito getting KOd this weekend.....his power did not transfer up here, and SSR fought like a man possessed. Despite ppl claiming Chocolatito was a hype job, i dont think that. He was a great fighter that moved beyond his sizes limits....gives you a real respect for manny....SSR gets a KO of the year win and P4P ratings, that he may or may not deserve
Mrs. james was looking something serious on fight night.

I'm torn too... GGG is starting to look old also.. he looked a bit old against the smaller Kell Brook, despite hurting his eye, and looked beatable againt Jacobs.
Plus I never liked that he takes too many punches to land his own. I think Canelo has the power to hurt him, and he's an excellent counter puncher.
The concern from Canelo looking at them his week is that he looks fatter standing next to GGG, not bigger. I'm not sure if that bulking helped him, or he may not be used to carrying that weight yet, and you're stepping in with the best in the division. If I'm GGG, I'm making major investments into Canelo's body.
I agree with Beefy, if it goes past 6, Canelo will tire and GGG wilk KO by round 9.
But Canelo can KO within first 5.. GGG must respect Canelo's power and not be so reckless.. GGG is an excellent boxer and he needs to rely on that.

I thought GGG also won 115-113. But indeed he's showing his age.. slower for sure, and I was dumbfounded that he didn't attack the body... Canelo was tiring from the pressure, and GGG could have helped himself with a consistent body attack, even if on the arms.
This fight reminded me greatly of the Hagler - Sugar Ray fight (which I thought Hagler won)... Canelo would fight in 20 second spurts at the beginning and end of the rounds trying to steal the rounds.
No doubt a rematch will take place, but I agree Canelo will only get stronger.. but either way I'm happy GGG is on the stage he should have been years ago.. let him earn one more big payday before retirement.

Jake LaMotta dies at age 95... he was a beast of a fighter... although I must say, the portrayal of him in 'Raging Bull' by DeNiro turned me off to him as a person.. whether the portrayal was true or not, it left an impression

Question and possible dream matchup...
Marvelous Marvin Hagler fought his whole career at 160... he seemed to never have any issues making weight, and he always came in chiseled and rock hard... one of the best physiques ever, and and could have been a serious bodybuilder if he wanted to be.
I was thinking recently on how he would have done at 168 or 175... His career pretty much spanned that of Michael Spinks, who was the champ from 1981 - mid 1985, before moving up to heavyweight to fight Larry Holmes.
If Hagler moved up to 175 to challenge Spinks or they met at a catch weight of 168... who are you picking?
In a similar contest, matchup, if Hagler met Dwight Muhammad Qawi at 175, who would you like then?
Neither of those guys would dance as much as Sugar Ray Leonard did.. they could both stand their ground and fight, and with Qawi, we could have a "SLOBBERKNOCKER!!" (been a while since that term has been used)

I scored the fight 116-112 for GGG. I knew if the fight went 12, GGG would get jobbed. I tweas a close fight and props to Canelo for making it a fight. He ate some big shots and threw some of his own. 118-110 for canelo is criminal. GGG is on a decline. Canelo will probabaly take the rematch easily. I dont know what the plan was here but GGG NEVER went to the body....head hunted the whole fight. That jab was what won him the fight IMO. IF Canelo fought another 30 sec every round, it would have played out very differently.....he fought almost like how Lara fought him a couple of years ago....where was the mexican style?
I think now with changes in training and nutrition info, fighters are more muscular and grow with the work they do (which now includes more resistance training). Mickey Ward was the same, never moved up in weight. Hagler vs Spinks is a good fight, id actually lean more towards hagler there....
Qawi-hagler would be NUTS....a Slobberknocker for real for real. Qawi was a volume puncher with some pop. Its hard to pick against him in this one.
LHW was a great division in that time frame (late 80s-ninties).

Rumor mill:
GGG-and GBP are negotiating for the rematch, but word on the street is that GBP put a call into the UFC. They are shopping Canelo-Mcgregor for May as Mcgregor is not going to want to fight until that time as well.

Canelo confirmed that he is only interested in GGG for cinco de mayo
David Lemieux confirmed that he is fighting on Dec 2 regardless of opponents. so thats one out for canelo thats not available....lemieux-cotto is a good fight.....not for cotto, but a good fight.
Your boxing IQ is far superior to mine so your picks are probably more realistic....Hagler's era was before my time. The only time I felt like you are describing when holmes lost, was when Tyson got stopped by Douglas....close second was when Jones Jr. got starched by Tarver. I was 5 when tyson got KO'd, and it was the equivalent of superman dying.

Deontay vs Stiverne... one came angry looking to make a statement.. the other came to get a paycheck... " I make dough.. but don't call me Doughboy".. not saying he took a dive, but he Stiverne shouldn't have been in there with him.
Sign the papers... get the fight on with. Joshua.
Shawn Porter was typical Shawn Porter tonight against Grenados.. broke his hand in the 6th.. couldn't use it the last 4 rounds..
Still don't see how after winning a 140 lb title, he's #1 mandatory foe Thurman.. not looking forward to a rematch.

Indeed, one of the best boxing analysts and color man from the fight game. I first started watching him on NBC Sportsworld as he was a boxing analyst with Marv Albert.. Years later, he was paired with Marv's brother Steve on the Showtime broadcasts.

I agree that this was a very Pro-Loma event, but he IS the new face of Top Rank and they are trying to build his brand.
Having said that, I agree with Teddy.. this was a bad matchup.. low entertainment value and old Rigo was overmatched and getting embarrassed by Loma... him quitting saved us from having a borefest.
Christopher Diaz on the undercard looks promising against a replacement Cruz, who took the fight 3 weeks after a KO win... a merciful stoppage.
Not sure Diaz is ready for Loma, but he has a future.
Beefy, you can't mention hot wives without pics.. don't leave a brotha hanging

Awful news. Boxer Patrick Day died of traumatic brain injury after a fight last Saturday. Rest in peace.
