Sporadic shooting pain in my left hip.

    Never Google. :-/

    Symptoms of Piriformis Syndrome

Most commonly, patients describe acute tenderness in the buttock and sciatica-like pain down the back of the thigh, calf and foot. Typical piriformis syndrome symptoms may include:

    • A dull ache in the buttock
    • Pain down the back of the thigh, calf and foot (sciatica)
    • Pain when walking up stairs or inclines
    • Increased pain after prolonged sitting
    • Reduced range of motion of the hip joint

    https://www.spine-health.com/conditi...ormis-syndrome

I've had X-rays taken - no issue found.

Been to the chiropractor and it didn't offer the immediate relief I typically get from chiro.

Guess I'll follow some of the recommendations at that URL. The symptoms align with what I'm encountering.

(It's called getting old? My family doctor said the pain may be associated with a fall I took in the classroom. Tripped over a kid who was sprawled across the carpet at the end of the day. D'OH!)

They had me stretching today at the physical therapist.

    Not a fan.

And following StrongLifts 5x5 program right now. A little bit of walking cardio (3.0 speed and 3.0 incline), too. I've only been back about a week or so.

Curious why you are not a fan? Is your body pretty stiff? If so that is probably why you hate it and don't want to do it. As we age the only way to take care of our bodies is getting stress and relaxing our muscles. Keep lifting and your muscles will feel like rocks, and it makes us more prone to injury. There is a reason why flexibility and mobility work have a huge impact in our recovery and lives as we age.

So i take it your going to do the heating/icing. I do not know if you will go the injection route to get that fixed. Glutes are usually pretty rock solid for most gym trainees. Many people sit for a living in a desk and therefore doesn't help their low back, glutes, and IT Bands. With becoming loose stretching is usually the #1 option, but it just comes down wanting to do it or not. Could be the easiest solution, but its up to you and your desire to get that fixed up. I am hoping for a speedy recovery.

I'm certainly lacking in flexibility, but the pain is actually gone. I had some noticeable pain several weeks ago, but it went away. Not sure if it was from the fun run that I wasn't especially prepared for or if it was related to that fall in the classroom, but it's gone now.

Following that first episode of jabby jabby pain, I visited my family doctor, my chiropractor, and then the physical therapist who worked on my shoulder. I'd had success with the pt. I love my chiro. And my family doc is a gem, just awesome. So I attacked the problem with all three professionals.

The chiro adjusted my hip. The family doc sent me for x-rays. The pt gave me exercises as well as stretching movements. I have two follow-ups scheduled with the pt and his assistant.

But by the time I initially arrived at the pt's office, he couldn't duplicate the pain. I'm feeling no pain now, but will follow the pt's recommendations (which so far haven't included heating, icing, or injections) to be proactive and prevent another flare up or incident.

How's life? Prepping for a contest? In the kitchen? I'll check your Facebook!

I like to stay away from the chiro personally I don't know if constant adjustments (don't know how often you go) can really take away from us as we grow older. and I do not want to rely on them all the time when pain flares up. Seems like people overuse (not saying you) going to a chiro as an instant fix to constant pain or posture problems.

Good for you that the pain just went away. Sometimes flare ups happen. But i know you are a teacher, and a lot of teachers sit for long periods of time which causes tight IT Bands, Piriformis (Glutes) and also calves. People would be amazed how much they can release the tension on their legs simple by stretching their calves or using a rumble roller to press out the lactic acid build up.

Life is good, you can always stop by my log. But I am glad to see you back to the iron!

    I agree with Bob.

Curt, you hip problems sounds very similar to my hip and piriformis issues.

A chiro injured my ex badly, which is not to say they're bad and no place for them. The repeated 'adjustments' can have a deleterious effect on the body.

Over stretching can be bad and I certainly benefit with some prior to a workout. Maybe 30 seconds worth?

I have heard about a chiro around where i live popped a lady's hip out of place and she went in for an adjustment. Stuff like this makes me think twice. I understand that they can help, but some people visit chiro's multiple times a week and hold onto them like it is a MUST to do to get healthy.
