Who are the most OVERRATED bodybuilders of all time?
Not trying to cause a stir, nor offend those who earned the right to be pro bodybuilders.
There was a thread posted here a couple of years ago on who were the most UNDERRATED bodybuilders of all time. But I couldn't find one for overrated.
By overrated, I'm talking about those you feel placed higher than you think they should have at a variety of contests throughout their career, or for some reason, you thought the judges had some bias towards rewarding them higher in a show than others you thought were more deserving.
Also I'm not necessarily calling out those who may have won a show you think they shouldn't have, or those who may have come into a show not quite at their best or perhaps they had an injury. What I'm looking for moreso is those who even at their best, you felt still should not have won so many shows, or placed as high as they did (i.e...got too many gifts).
Since I'm starting this, I'll start it off... I've watched several Mr. O contests from the late 80's and 90's, and IMHO, I don't get why Lee Labrada placed as high as he did in as many shows he did... Yes he had a very symmetrical physique, and yes he was a great poser, but seeing him in comparisons with others, he never held my attention. Symmetry is a factor, but so is size and conditioning.
I was actually more impressed with more recent photos of him in his 50's, promoting his Labrada brand... Sick vascularity and was much more eye popping than anything I saw on stage.
Again, not trying to insult, and I'm sure he was a big inspiration to smaller bodybuilders like Shawn Ray, but Shawn took it to another level.

Well this will piss some people off but I always thought Haney was overrated.Great torso but very average arms and legs. Not saying he was bad but he just doesn't look to me like an 8 time greatest in the world.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I think Steve Reeves could of had alot more potential and was overrated. One person may look at someone being under/over rated in a different aspect, so you have to take everyones feedback with a grain of salt.

Steve Kuclo hasn't really done the damage he was expected to when he first came through the ranks, he seems like he burnt out very fast but he seems to be on the cover of Flex every month. I don't think any of the 7 or 8 timers "needed" that many Olympia. Mentzer, Wheeler, Ray, Levrone, Schliercamp, Martinez should all have at least 1 Olympia in my opinion.

Ronnie in some contests. His sheer size won out over aesthetics.

Also Jose Raymond and Kevin English. Sometimes I really disagree with the results in the 212.

To be overrated people must think you are good. Given the column inches Dallas has had I think he is overrated.
Dorian gets a bit overrated because people like what he is all about.
I know Gaspari won shows for being freakily conditioned but he had more flaws than most top guys, he did very well with what he had.
I 'll leave who I think is the most overrated bodybuilder for last......Branch Warren. He has always gotten very good placings for what he brings, in my view.

As to the original poster PTB regarding his comments on Lee Labrada... go look up the 93 Arnold. He came in 2nd and gave Flex a run for his money. That's a fact.
I wonder if Curt can find any good pics from that show?

Ok, why not -lol
ferrigno. I honestly think that if it weren't for his being on a Main stream tv show In the 70's he never would have gotten half the attention he has as a bodybuilder. Yeah he was tall and I guess at the time Arnold didn't have much legitimate competition (for the pumping iron movie), but in terms of symmetry, proportion, anything other than his height and weight, I just never really cared for him as a complete BBer.
