Default Can you have too much glutamine?

Ok, so I started training intense about 2 weeks ago and started supplementing with glutamine, however I realize that my shakes already have ~5g/scoops of it and I take 4 scoops so that's 20g right off the bat. With the supp itself, I take another 15g per day so that's 35g. Nothing hardcore but still, is it bad or it's just useless to use that much?

Yes, any extra glutamine is too much, because its oral bioavailability is nonexistent. Don't bother with it.

it depends, you never know how many grams get lost on it's way to the blood stream. i've read articles saying that the stomach kills some of the grams and also that some products are hard to pass through the intestinal wall. So what i do is always add extra. Your body can absorb 5g of glut a serving so ill take about 7g. + how do u know that in the products your taking there is acually 5g of glut per serving ?

So i dont think adding a bit extra will be anything drastic, just not to cost effective.

During contest prep and offseason training my amounts vary depending on my macros. But generally I supplement about 20g a day, but I only consume 1 maybe 2 shakes a day, the rest are whole food meals.

This has been a long debate as to whether glutamine does anything. I will not get into this, but extra glutamine is perfectly safe.

I will agree to this. I will also add that I wouldnt buy it as a seperate supplement to take, not worth it.

Everyone says (and studies show) that glutamine is poorly absorbed - BUT I have noticed positive effects on recovery from it. So much so that I take 10g every morning on an empty stomach while I'm cooking my breakfast.

Studies show that most of it is doesnt make it past the gut, however what I have never understood is how that is a bad thing? If the gut, which has to do with the immune system is taking up the glutamine, then that means its not having to catabolize it from muscle tissue. So in an indirect way glutamine is working.

I'd like for someone to expand on that theory instead of always hashing up that glutamine gets stopped by the gut and doesnt make it to the muscle - who says it has to make it to the muscle to spare muscle glutamine?
